Socket weld and threaded forged steel fittings

Forged Steel Fittings – Socket Weld & Threaded

Brandfittings produces a complete line of ASME B16.11 forged steel fittings in socket weld and threaded (NPT) connections — elbows, tees, crosses, couplings, half couplings, unions, caps, bushings, plugs and nipples. Forged from ASTM A105 carbon steel, A182 stainless (F304/304L, F316/316L), alloy and A350 LF2 low-temperature grades, our forged fittings are built for high-pressure service in petrochemical, power and offshore applications.

As a factory in Mengcun County, Hebei — China's Pipe Fittings Capital — we supply forged fittings from 1/8″ to 4″ (DN6–DN100) in Classes 2000, 3000, 6000 and 9000, with full material traceability and MTC (EN 10204 3.1) on every order.

Socket Weld vs Threaded (NPT)

  • Socket weld (SW) — the pipe is inserted into the socket and fillet-welded. Leak-tight and strong, it is preferred for high-pressure, high-temperature and vibration-prone lines where leakage cannot be tolerated.
  • Threaded (NPT) — the fitting screws onto threaded pipe. Fast to install and easy to dismantle for maintenance, it suits lower-pressure systems, small-bore instrument lines and locations where welding is not practical.

Our detailed comparison — socket weld vs threaded forged fittings — covers pressure limits, installation and when to choose each.

A105 forged carbon steel is the workhorse for general high-pressure service; stainless F304/F316 handles corrosive and hygienic media; alloy and LF2 grades cover high-temperature and low-temperature duty. Our material guide can help with selection.

Applications by Industry

Manufacturing & Quality Control

Forged fittings are produced by hot forging from certified billet, then heat-treated (normalizing or quench & temper as required) and precision-machined on CNC lathes. Threads are cut to NPT tolerance and gauged; socket bores are machined to ASME B16.11 dimensions. Every fitting is pressure-rated by class, with the grade and heat number stamped on the body and mirrored on the MTC (EN 10204 3.1). Third-party inspection by SGS, BV or TÜV can be arranged before shipment.

Customization Options

  • Special materials — duplex, super-duplex and nickel alloys on request
  • Custom marking — logo, grade, heat number per your specification
  • Surface treatment — zinc plating, PTFE coating, pickling & passivation
  • Packing — cartons or wooden cases per export standards

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between socket weld and threaded forged fittings?

Socket weld fittings are fillet-welded over the pipe end, giving a strong, leak-tight joint for high-pressure and vibration-prone service. Threaded (NPT) fittings screw onto the pipe — faster to install and easy to dismantle, but limited to lower pressure classes and smaller sizes.

What pressure classes do you supply?

Class 2000, Class 3000, Class 6000 and Class 9000, in sizes from 1/8″ to 4″ (DN6–DN100), per ASME B16.11.

What types of forged fittings are available?

90°/45° elbows, tees, crosses, couplings, half couplings, unions, caps, bushings, plugs and nipples — 11+ fitting types in both socket weld and threaded connections.

What standards do your forged fittings comply with?

ASME B16.11, MSS-SP-79, MSS-SP-83, MSS-SP-95 and BS 3799. Every order ships with an MTC per EN 10204 3.1.

What are your lead times?

Standard sizes in stock ship in 7–10 days. Production orders take 30–45 days, and special material or custom items 45–60 days, depending on class, material and quantity.
